Spain voted to ban seal products throughout the EU

We congratulate Spanish Government

At this time, on Friday 27th, Spain already is an essential part to put an end to commercial seal hunt.

Spanish Governement, with its vote in the COREPER today's session, supporting the total ban for trading of products derived from seals throughout the EU, takes an exemplary and courageous attitude, according to the massive wish of Spanish citizens and overcoming the pressure that, undoubtley, arrived these days from those countries involved in such activity. The European Parliament’s Internal Market Committee had already recommended it last March 2nd, disregarding any exemption (except for Inuit and other aboriginal communities).
Official sources from the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Fishing Areas confirmed the Spanish vote last Wednesday 25th to our Communication Office, that had been monitoring it for several days, at different levels of the Spanish central government. Fundación Altarriba retrained from annoucing it up to now because of an obvious political discretion.
"I admit that the modification of Spanish vote in this question has suprised us, because our hope to get it was minimal, if any. But it's true that the Ministry has showed permanent willingness and sensibility along these days; for us, anyway, it was a wonderful "shock" to receive the confirmation last Wednesday. Right away we announced it to those who are documenting the hunt over Canadian ice, asking them a similar discretion, and they also jumped for joy", Matilde Figueroa (Communication Director).
We must congratulate our government for this decision that, apart from the severe stroke against commercial seal hunt it means itself, opens a door towards a solution for animal cruelty in our own country, and shows a sensitivity in our Authorities that we waited for years, and that we expect to continue in the future.
