Two young chimps rescued from illegal trade
|
October 2007
Two chimps rescued from furtives. "Congo" (6 years old) and "Lume" (4 years old) have been rescued this month. Our vet Carmen, and a volunteer from Norway, Hilda, went to Goma city to bring both animals to the Sanctuary. "Congo" was found tied to a tree with a metallic chain around the neck; he had been there for several days, under the rain. "Lume", also outside in the forest, was kept in a box. Both are suspected to be part of a shipment for private/individual zoos/collections.

"Congo" and "Lume", already in the Sanctuary, are liberated into a quarantine area.

Six confiscated gorillas waiting for a place
|
May 2007
Six gorillas, confiscated by the Government of Congo, are waiting to come to the Sanctuary. Four of them are in the park, in Government's care, but two other are still with the poachers group, so the rescue is an emergency (they could later say the gorillas "died"). There are no current facilities available for gorillas, and the new ones will cost near 20.000 $US (15.000 €). Donations are the only way to build their place.

"Pablo" arrives to Lwiro Sanctuary
|
April 4th 2007
"Pablo", a chimp, arrived to Lwiro Sanctuary, after been confiscated by MONUC soldiers to a poacher. The hunter took "Pablo" in a plastic bag and tried to sell the animal. He is two years old

← Pablo when arrived
After a few days, Carmen succeeded in making him eat, so we think he will finally survive. "Pablo" is about two years old, but arrived ill and extremely thin.
